The hippie cave of Ibiza, also known as 'Cova del Mirador', is an iconic spot that for years attracted visitors due to its unique character and breathtaking views of Es Vedra. Although the cave was cleared in 2017 by the Sant Josep municipality, this spot remains a popular attraction for adventurous travelers and photographers seeking a stunning view of the mysterious rock island.
The hippie cave was once a colorful place, decorated with trinkets, mattresses, chairs, blankets, and even books. Over the years, various hippies, drifters, and dreamers stayed here, contributing to the cave's mythical status. The cave symbolized freedom and creativity, where visitors often left souvenirs such as bracelets and notes as mementos of their visit.
Next to the famous hippie cave is a second, smaller cave. Although this cave was also cleared over the years, it still offers a peaceful spot with a beautiful view. To reach this second cave, walk about 20 meters further from the first cave towards the rock wall. The text ‘RIP Asia’ on the rock marks the location of this hidden treasure.
The Es Vedra viewpoint is one of the most impressive spots on Ibiza. This viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the iconic rock island and the turquoise sea surrounding it. Unfortunately, the parking area at the viewpoint was closed at the beginning of 2025. Large boulders and guardrails block the road, meaning both cars and hikers are restricted from this area. Visitors wishing to admire Es Vedra can best visit the nearby Cala d’Hort beach or join the 100% Ibiza tour for an alternative look at this stunning natural wonder.
Although the area is now more difficult to access, you can still reach the hippie cave via a hiking route. From the (former) parking area, follow the path past the wooden gate. After about 10 minutes of walking, you will reach an open area with a deteriorated fence. Go through this fence and walk another 10 minutes until you reach the edge of the cliff. From here, you'll have a fantastic view of Es Vedra and will be standing on the ‘roof’ of the cave.
To reach the cave, walk a few meters to the left, between two bushes. You will see a large rock; follow the small path to the left of this rock downwards. A few meters further to the right is the famous hippie cave.
Due to recent restrictions, it is important to be prepared. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring plenty of water. Be cautious while climbing to the caves, as some trees and rocks are unstable. Don't forget to treat the environment with respect and leave no waste behind.
If you wish to admire Es Vedra without risking parking fines, consider visiting Cala d’Hort beach. This beach offers a beautiful view of the iconic rock island and is an excellent spot to watch the sunset. Keep in mind that parking here is also limited, so arrive early to secure a spot.
The hippie cave and the Es Vedra viewpoint remain magical places that you absolutely must visit during your Ibiza vacation. Despite the recent restrictions, this spot remains a unique experience that you won’t forget easily. Don’t forget your camera to capture the breathtaking views!
