Although Alex no longer lives in the cave, his story remains a fascinating part of this location. The cave, hidden in the rocky wall on the far right, is still decorated with trinkets, flowers, candles, and incense — a reminder of the spiritual influences Alex embraced.
Alex Shiney, originally from Czechoslovakia, was once a successful music producer. However, he decided to leave his modern life behind and chose a simple existence in nature. In his cave without electricity or running water, he created a minimalist living space with a bed, a portable radio, and a small stove. Alex spent his days practicing yoga, meditating, and collecting herbs and salt from seawater. He produced ‘Sal de Cucó’, a herb mixture that he sold alongside homemade tea, iced tea, and aloe vera drinks to visitors.
Although Alex no longer resides in the cave, his legendary story lives on. Visitors can still admire the cave and experience the special atmosphere of this unique place that was once his home.
Location and Accessibility
Punta Galera is easily accessible by car. When driving from San Antonio towards Cala Salada, follow the sign indicating Punta Galera. The best option is to set your GPS to ‘Carrer Núm. 3 Punta Galera, 5, 07820 Sant Antoni de Portmany, Illes Balears’. Drive to the end of this road, park your car, and continue on foot (+/- 250 meters). The final stretch requires some climbing, so sturdy shoes are recommended.
