What makes Cala de sa Ferradura special

The small beach of Cala de sa Ferradura lies on the west side of the bay of Port de Sant Miquel, in the north of Ibiza. It belongs to the municipality of Sant Joan de Labritja. As the crow flies, it’s about 650 m from the main beach at Port de Sant Miquel.

The beach sits by the narrow neck of land that leads to Illa des Bosc. According to the Enciclopèdia d’Eivissa i Formentera, this peninsula may once have been an islet. Its northern tip is called Punta de sa Ferradura. ‘Ferradura’ is Catalan for horseshoe, after the shape of the peninsula.

On the peninsula stands a private villa of the same name, Sa Ferradura. That land is private, but the beach itself is not. In Spain, beaches are part of the public coastal domain, and under the Coastal Law (Ley de Costas) ordinary use of them is open to all, unrestricted and free of charge.

Getting there and parking

You get there on foot from Port de Sant Miquel. A path leads through the pine woods on the west side of the bay to the beach. How long the walk takes and what state the path is in haven’t been checked on site.

There’s no information about parking at the beach itself. So leave the car in Port de Sant Miquel and walk the last stretch. Don’t drive on to the peninsula: that’s where the private land begins.

Facilities

There’s little up-to-date information about facilities. The Enciclopèdia d’Eivissa i Formentera calls the beach by the neck of land ‘platja des Pas de s’Illa’ and describes a small jetty and a beach kiosk there. According to the same source, the swimming and boating areas are marked off and you can hire sunloungers and parasols. That description is undated, and whether things are still the same hasn’t been checked. So bring your own water and food.

The main beach of Port de Sant Miquel is within walking distance. It was awarded a Blue Flag in 2026 (status as of 1 October 2026). You’ll also find places to eat and drink in Port de Sant Miquel.

Tips for your visit

• Bring something for shade, in case there are no parasols for hire.
• Wear sturdy shoes for the path through the woods.
• A little to the west of the beach stands the Torre des Molar, an 18th-century watchtower.
• Take your rubbish away with you.

Safety and nature

The path runs through woodland. In the Balearic Islands, recreational fires in woodland are banned from 1 May to 15 October inclusive, under Decreto 125/2007. If you smoke, put your cigarette out properly and take the butt with you.

If you’re on a boat, you mustn’t anchor on posidonia seagrass meadows (Real Decreto 191/2026). Drop anchor on sand or use an official mooring buoy.
