What makes S’Illot des Renclí special

On the road to Portinatx, just past Cala Xarraca, you’ll find S’Illot des Renclí. This small cove in the north of Ibiza belongs to the municipality of Sant Joan de Labritja. It lies between Cala Xarraca and the bay of Xuclà, at the foot of Puig de sa Xarraca (231 m).

The beach is small: official tourist sources give its length as 30 to 35 m. It has pale sand, with large rocks and small islets around it. Just offshore is the islet the cove is named after; ‘illot’ is Catalan for islet. Fishermen’s boathouses line the water, with slipways for launching boats.

In the European bathing water assessment (EEA), the monitoring point here was rated ‘excellent’ for the 2025 season. The same was true of the ten seasons before that. That assessment is about the hygienic quality of the bathing water. With its rocks and islets, the cove is good for snorkelling when the sea is calm.

Getting there and parking

From the village of Sant Joan, follow the signs for Portinatx. Take the turn-off for Cala Xarraca and then the one for S’Illot des Renclí.

Up on the cliffs, under the pine trees, there’s a restaurant. You can park near it. From there, a short path leads down to the beach.

Facilities

There are few or no facilities on the beach itself. The Balearic tourist board says there are no services, while the Spanish beach guide does mention sunlounger and parasol hire. So don’t count on being able to hire anything.

Tips for your visit

• The beach is small. In July and August, arrive early if you want a spot.
• Bring your own drinks, food and shade if you’re not eating at the restaurant.
• Bring snorkelling gear to explore the rocks and islets underwater.
• Water shoes are handy around the rocks.
• Combine your visit with Cala Xarraca, a few hundred metres to the west.
