Platja de Llevant

A long sandy beach on the east side of the Es Trucadors peninsula on Formentera, in Ses Salines Natural Park. There’s an entry fee for cars and motorbikes.

What makes Platja de Llevant special

On the narrow Es Trucadors peninsula, in the north of Formentera, two long beaches lie back to back. Ses Illetes is on the west side, Platja de Llevant on the east. Llevant is about 1,450 m long and around 90 m wide on average. The sand is fine and white, with a few rocks here and there.

To the south, the beach borders Platja de ses Canyes; to the north, it runs all the way to Punta des Trucadors. In places, Llevant and Ses Illetes are only about 50 m apart. According to the Balearic Islands tourist board, Llevant is a good deal less busy than Ses Illetes in summer.

The beach is part of Ses Salines Natural Park (Parc Natural de ses Salines d’Eivissa i Formentera). Behind the sand, a large area of dunes with boardwalks and a small wood separate the beach from the salt pans. There are hardly any buildings in sight. Underwater, patches of sand alternate with posidonia seagrass.

In the EU bathing water assessment for the 2025 season, Platja de Llevant was rated ‘excellent’ (source: European Environment Agency). According to the Balearic Islands tourist board, you can also swim nude here.

Getting there and parking

From the port of La Savina, follow the road past the Estany Pudent to the natural park; it’s about 4 km. From Es Pujols it’s about 5.5 km. The route is signposted.

If you drive into the park by car or motorbike, you pay an entry fee. On foot or by bike, entry is free; according to the Balearic Islands tourist board, the charge doesn’t apply to electric cars either. Llevant shares its parking with Ses Illetes. Spaces are limited, so in high season it’s best to go early or cycle there.

Facilities

According to Formentera’s tourist board, there are one or two beach bars where you can also get a meal. Otherwise, facilities are limited. Whether sunloungers and parasols are for hire can vary from season to season, so bring your own shade just in case.

  • Plenty of drinking water
  • Your own shade and sun cream
  • Food, if you don’t want to eat at a beach bar
  • A bag for your rubbish

Tips for your visit

  • Stay on the boardwalks through the dunes. Under the park rules, the dunes themselves are off limits, as is everything off the marked paths.
  • Combine Llevant with Ses Illetes: at the narrowest point, it’s only a short walk from one side of the peninsula to the other.
  • If you cycle, you don’t pay an entry fee and won’t have to hunt for a parking space.
  • Coming by boat? In the natural park you may only anchor on sand, never on seagrass.

Safety and nature

North of Punta des Trucadors, a shallow channel runs towards s’Espalmador. According to the Balearic Islands tourist board, this passage is dangerous for shipping. Bear that in mind if you’re going out by boat or kayak. Take all your rubbish away with you: the entire area is protected.
